5 ways to burn fat fast

Contents Show

Almost everyone at some point in their life has struggled with their weight. There are more jobs than ever where we’re sat down, and junk food is more available than ever. We’re burning less calories and we’re eating more, not exactly a recipe for sudden weight loss.

So, if you’re strapped for time, and you want to know if there is anything else you can do outside of exercise and diet to lose belly fat faster, you’re in the right place. There are a number of fat burning solutions you can try, and we’re going to cover them in this blog.

Note: If you’re someone who blames weight gain on genetics, yet sits down all day, doesn’t exercise, and doesn’t eat healthy, you might as well stop reading now.

Our blogs are only for people that take complete responsibility for where they are right now and are willing to do everything in their power to get the result they want.

Still here? Good, we can’t wait to help you! Let’s get into it. Here are the 5 best fat burning solutions you can take to help you lose belly fat faster.

    1. Protein powder

Protein can help you to feel fuller, which means you’ll eat less and shed those pounds faster!

It also means you can get rid of your ‘human dustbin’ identity. The next time someone tries to pile their leftovers onto your plate, you can say no because you’ll be full from having more protein in your diet.

Something which not a lot of people know about is protein requires more energy to process. On average 15-30% of the protein you consume is burned off in the digestion process. (1)

So if you eat 400 calories worth of protein, somewhere between 60-120 calories are burned off. Not bad when you’re losing weight right?

Nick (co-founder of Unstoppabl) reads this part of the blog and stockpiles whey protein powder.

Weight loss isn’t the only reason you should be having a higher protein diet. It can help you build muscle, be healthier, improve recovery, sleep better, and improve your bone health to name a few.

How to take your protein powder

If you’re working out the best time to have your protein powder is 30 minutes post-workout. This will help you to recover quickly and help to offset some muscle soreness. (2)

Protein shakes can also be used as a snack throughout the day. This is something I do when I’m feeling a bit hungry. Far more filling and beneficial than a chocolate bar or bag of crisps.

Here’s our recommendation if you’re planning to get a whey protein powder.

If you’re vegan, here’s our recommendation for that too.

    2. Fish Oils

A quick and easy way you can burn more fat is by taking a fish oil supplement. Research has shown taking a daily fish oil supplement can help to decrease waist circumference. (3)

So if you’ve pushed old clothes to the back of your wardrobe this could help you get back into them. Fish oil supplementation can also help to keep you feeling fuller for two hours post-meal. (4)

How many fish oils should you take?

You should take 400mg of EPA and DHA to get the benefits of fish oils. Always check the label to make sure the fish oil you choose has a high content of this, as more capsules mean more calories. Also to get rid of fishy burps freeze your capsules, or use the vegan supplement I recommend.

Here is the fish oil supplement I use and recommend.

Here is a vegan version too.

    3. Electrolytes

Staying hydrated is the foundation of good health. You’re helping your brain to stay alert, you’re less likely to get brain fog, you’re less likely to get headaches, and you’ll have better workouts. (5)

When it comes to losing body fat, drinking more water and adding in some electrolytes is a great strategy. (6)

Because you’re not always hungry, sometimes you just need a drink, and drinking can help to keep feelings of hunger at bay. It also means you’re less likely to turn to a sugary drink (full of empty calories) to quench your thirst.

When you add electrolytes to your drink you absorb the water you drink even more. I add a couple of scoops of this to my big water bottle every day and I can assure you, you feel fuller. Adding electrolytes to your water also means you’re going to wee less. If you get up 4 times a night to go to the toilet, this can help too. Your body needs sleep to help you lose body fat. Less sleep, hungrier the next day, more weight gain – boooo. Keep your drink on your desk at work too, as you’ll be more likely to drink it. (7)

    How to take your electrolytes

1-2 scoops per 1-2 litres. Always read the back of the pack to double-check. Here are the electrolytes I use and recommend.

How much water should you drink a day?

The NHS recommends 6-8 cups of water a day. (8)

This will increase as you exercise more. The best way to know if you’re hydrated is to look at the colour of your pee. Dark yellow? Drink more. Clear? You’re hydrated. Quick, easy, simple test.

    4. Caffeine

Can caffeine help you lose body fat? Short answer, yes. It can speed up your metabolism helping you to burn more fat. (9)

This is why you’ll see a lot of ‘fat burners’ packed full of caffeine. So save yourself money on fat burning pills and just get a nice-tasting coffee.

How much caffeine should you have to lose body fat?

400mg of caffeine daily, roughly 3-4 cups of coffee a day. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT consume this after lunch. Caffeine stays in your system for a long time, it will disrupt your sleep, you’ll feel terrible and you will not lose weight. Have a 10 am cut-off. That’s plenty of time for the caffeine to flush out of your system. Also remember decaf coffee and tea still has caffeine in it too, so be careful with that.

Coffee lovers, comment below, what’s your favourite coffee? I’m always looking for different ones to try! I’ll start, any Vietnamese coffee is fantastic… hazelnutty goodness. Yum

    5. Zinc

There’s a couple of mind-blowing research articles I want to tell you about. The first showed zinc supplementation increased calories burnt by 194 calories a day. The second study showed zinc supplementation increased calories burnt by 527 calories a day. Insane! Imagine burning an extra 527 calories a day without doing more exercise? (10)

Side note: best to take early mornings otherwise you will find, (speaking for experience), that you’ll be pitching a tent at roughly around 3 am when you’re trying to sleep.

How much zinc should you be taking to lose weight?

15-25mg per day. (11) This is the one I take and recommend. (12)
